December 2023 Wine Features
Zeitgeist Cellars – 2022 Trousseau Gris
As usual, the Trousseau Gris is your “lean and mean” choice. Bright, tightly focused and super vibrant, the 2022 Trousseau Gris is the holy grail for paring with food. Works with everything from seafood, to spicy soup to french fries. Or pair it with absolutely nothing and savor with one of your favorite companions. Already it reminds us of freshly cut lemons, stone fruits and bergamot. A clean and concise minerality anchors the mid palate.
Meadowcroft Wines – 2019 Speedy Creek Vineyard Zinfandel
Why We Love This Wine: Spirited aromas of white cherry, plums, and caramel lead to complex layers of cherry cobbler and black licorice. The palate is polished and smooth, with a finish intertwined with toasted vanilla. Best now through 2030.
Carr Winery – 2020 Los Olivos Grenache
The Lyons Vineyard is a 6 acre vineyard planted in the Los Olivos District of Santa Barbara County. It is an Ultra-High-Density vineyard planted 5’x3′. This tight spacing creates a competition between the vines that produces very small berries with dark skins. We age the wine to perfection for 18 months in French oak barrels. The first sip is fruit forward with a hint of spice followed by an intense structure and body.
Pine Mountain Vineyards – 2018 Estate Classic Red Wine
This blend of classic red Bordeaux style varieties, all grown on our unique high-elevation site, make a rich and complex tapestry. Black currant, plum and cedar aromas give way to a full and juicy mouthfeel with a long and lively finish.
Sequum Wines – 2020 Mixt
This bold and full-bodied blend of Cabernet, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Zinfandel is packed with blackberries, blueberries and raspberries for a blend of tangy and jammy flavors. A mostly soft texture sports light tannins so it’s ready to drink.
Westerly Wines – 2018 Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon
Why We Love This Wine: The 2018 Westerly Cabernet sauvignon, appellation Napa Valley-Spring Mountain District is a wonderful expression of a classic California wine. On the nose, hints of blackberry, dark chocolate, plum and a touch of French oak are present. To the palate, the wine is balanced, expressive and weighty with full body. Hints of anise, coffee and dried fruit give way to a beautiful textured finish with subtle tannins.
